We are developing new B-BBEE software to address arising complications in BEE legislation. Our two new products are focused on two of South Africa’s biggest industries: the mining sector and the legal sector.
Mining Sector Code
Interest in the mining industry by some of our leading customers has opened up our first foray into The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy. This market is becoming increasingly relevant as mining houses depend on their Mining Sector Code BEE levels to validate their existing mining license’s, or to qualify for new ones. What adds to this complexity is the requirement of a Department of Trade and Industry (Dti) BEE certificate for other business operations.
This is burdensome and complicated to keep track of and it is for this reason we are building an environment where one input source will feed both scorecard calculators. This newly developed Beta Scorecard Calculator is the first step in the combining of these two worlds. If you would like to learn more about this software or learn more, click here.
Legal Sector Code
The legal sector has always been different, deviating from the Dti and other sector codes in numerous ways. We suspect these changes will further increase with the publication of the final gazette. We have still produced an Beta version of the scorecard software that will allow legal entities to evaluate the impact of this draft sector code. We have architected the calculator so that one product covers QSE, Generic and Specialised Enterprises for both attorneys, advocates.
This new product is currently being tested by a large law firm. We hope to have it out for draft use by the end of the month, refined and ready to use. Our view is that many LSMEs (Legal Sector Measured Entities) will find this draft code difficult and expensive to comply with and consequently there will probably be extensive discussions before a final code is gazetted. Our Opinions On The Legal Sector's Gazzette
This draft Legal Sector Code joins the list of BEE legislation in the pipeline: namely, the CA Sector Code gazetted on 26th April, 2019, the Petroleum and Mineral Energy Sector Code proclaimed on 13 September 2017, the Events Sector Code proposed in 2021 and presumably, the Amended Transport Sector Codes that are still based on the repealed Old Codes and have yet to be aligned to the 2013 Amended B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice.
